WINTER was the first of four seasonally-inspired Sound Garden events presented by Wavelets Creative. Composer James Everest created sounds amplified from vessels throughout the site and participants were immersed in an outdoor environment on the ice with music, poetry, sculpture dance and a Snowflake song by Blue Lady and The Free Range Choir who also created layers of sounds by playing the water jars! Three more events to come! Each site-specific Sound Garden event will take place in a different outdoor location around Minnesota. I'll keep you posted!
Made Here: Energy, Artists in Storefronts Opening
What a wonderful time at The Energy Made Here Launch Party put on by Hennepin Theatre Trust!
Made Here features the work of more than 30 Minnesota artists and their art installed in the storefronts on Hennepin Avenue. Blue Lady was invited to mingle with the artists, art goers, and people out on the street! Her costumes this time were Half Earth/Half Air and Half Water/Half Fire for Made Here’s theme ENERGY!
NYC Halloween Parade 2017
It was an honor to walk with Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill deBlasio as the Parade showed New York its vibrance and resilience. There was an atmosphere of LOVE not fear as we honored those who passed, by embracing life in its fullest.
Blue Lady has created costumes and parade groups for over a decade for the NYC Halloween Parade, known as the nation's most wildly creative public participatory event. This year's theme Cabinet of Curiosities, or unlikely combinations like the Figi Mermaid (Half Monkey/Half Fish) inspired Blue Lady's two Elemental creations of Half Water/Half Fire and Half Air/Half Earth.
Joining forces with Maracatu New York, a Brazilian drum ensemble made up of over 60 drumming revelers, we played, danced, and lifted spirits with over 1.5 million New Yorkers, including a friendly cow!

Celebrating the new murals that were created in collaboration with residents at Harbor Light,
Hennepin Theatre Trust and representatives from organizations like YouthLink MN, Healthcare for the Homeless, Gaia Democratic School, Streetworks Collaborative and MINNEAPOLIS MAD DADS created an extrordinary street festival!
Northern Spark: Million Artist Movement and iNMiGRATiON
This year the spirit of Northern Spark 2017, the all night long city wide art event along the Green Line, was dedicated to the desire to make a difference through action. Through hundreds of participatory performances, installations and surprising experiences, this year’s festival asks: What are the actions we can take individually and collectively to cumulatively create the conditions for change?
Besides riding the light rail to mingle with festival goers, Blue Lady was invited to join two collectives for Northern Spark. Both had themes relating to water and individuality...
The first was the Million Artist Movement that created an installation called Relative Water Liquid Spirit: Healing Art Structure and Creative Environment, designed for people to become aware that their bodies are made up of water. By guiding people through the water cycle of evaporation/transpiration, condensation, precipitation,and collection, we were prompted to question identity and what is possible.
And next, Wavelets Creative, iNMiGRATiON created a dynamic sound and video interactive performance installation that reminds us of how we got here, and where we come from. Life first formed on Earth in Water. Water was the necessary ingredient for all those molecules to configure themselves into the miracle of life. Water is life, and life is movement. Everything is constantly in motion – our cells, bodies, families, communities, and planet. Movement and migration is a defining aspect of our pasts, presents, and in our increasingly climate-changed future.
