COMMUNITY EVENTS
MADE HERE
Made Here: Artists in Storefront events by Hennepin Theatre Trust fill underused storefronts and commercial spaces with art by local artists, transforming Hennepin Avenue into a walkable urban art gallery. Blue Lady has been invited to mingle at the opening galas for over five years as a roving artist. She tailors her costumes to the theme of each immersive event, sometimes also outfitting character friends in theme related costumes. For this Made Here event titled “Energy”, Blue Lady made costumes Half Water/Half Fire and Half Air/Half Earth, personifying the elements as sources of living energy.
At the Made Here opening with the theme of Future, Blue Lady appeared in a gown of plastic products. While roaming the event, her water personification and attire sparked discussions of our use of plastics, water and the future.
HARBOR LIGHTS MURALS
Hennepin Theatre Trust and representatives from organizations YouthLink MN, Healthcare for the Homeless, Gaia Democratic School, Streetworks Collaborative and MINNEAPOLIS MAD DADS invited Blue Lady as interactive artist to celebrate the new Harbor Lights murals during an extraordinary street festival.
CARNIVAL BRASILEIRO
Blue Lady has been a mingling performance artist, stage musician and performer at Brazilfests’ Carnival Brasileiro for both the children’s matinee and evening performances. Pictured here with a guest at International Market Square in costumes as Spirits of Light, Blue Lady also designed and built the patchwork Brazilian flag that hangs as a backdrop for the stage performances each year.
CEDAR LAKE BEACH OPENING GALA
Blue Lady was invited to be the greeter and mascot for the Grand Re-Opening of beautiful Cedar Lake's South Beach. She brought along her character fishy friend, mingled with beach goers and presented her summer song with members of the Free Range Orchestra and Choir.
CONEY ISLAND MERMAID PARADE
Blue Lady loves a parade, and in the spirit of carnival she has created entire parade groups--envisioned themes, built elaborate costumes for participants and incorporated music and dance. For over fifteen years she has created parade groups featured in The Coney Island Mermaid Parade and The New York Halloween Parade.
Even transporting to and from the parade site becomes something of a joyful intervention.
FLINT HILLS INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL AT THE ORDWAY
Blue Lady has been invited to be a roving artist at the Flint Hills International Children’s Festival in Rice Park, St Paul, attended by over 50,000 people. Since Blue Lady is available to mingle there are many opportunities to discuss children’s and adults numerous questions about mermaids and water life. Families love the occasion to take photos. Blue Lady has also presented segments of her Global Music Spectacle on the World Music Stage as well as Blue Lady Adventures at the Story Corner.
NEW YORK HALLOWEEN PARADE
Blue Lady creates “Fruits”, the themed group promoting Trees For Life, an organization that plants fruit trees in impoverished areas to fight world hunger.
